Montessori / Early Years at Nigeria Ghana International School

At Nigeria Ghana International School, our Montessori / Early Years programme is child-centred and carefully designed to support the whole child. Unlike conventional classrooms where learning is directed mainly by the teacher, our environment allows children to learn through guided exploration, meaningful interaction, and hands-on experience.

Our trained educators observe each child closely, paying attention to their interests, developmental stage, and natural curiosity. Lessons are introduced at the right moment for each child, allowing every learner to progress at their own pace. Rather than leading from the front of the classroom, our guides work alongside the children, offering one-on-one and small-group support that builds confidence, independence, and a love for learning.

Children learn in thoughtfully prepared, mixed-age classrooms where younger learners benefit from observing older peers, and older children develop leadership, empathy, and responsibility by serving as role models. While early literacy and numeracy skills may emerge naturally, our focus is on nurturing each child’s unique potential, confidence, and independence, not on academic pressure.

Our Montessori materials are designed for hands-on learning and self-discovery. Children learn by doing, repeating activities to build concentration, focus, and inner calm. The self-correcting nature of the materials encourages children to recognise and correct their own mistakes, strengthening problem-solving skills and self-confidence. This approach helps children build a strong foundation for understanding more complex ideas as they grow.

We believe education is a preparation for life. Our Early Years environment is orderly, calm, and nurturing, supporting each child’s physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual development. Through gentle guidance, structure, and freedom within clear boundaries, we help children develop self-discipline, positive learning habits, and increasing independence that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
